Your success depends on the company of people you associate with.

Your success depends on the company of people you associate with.

There is an African saying that states ‘If you lean against an anthill you will become brown. It is also said that ‘Birds of the same feather flock together’ or ‘”Tell me who your friends are and I will tell who you are”? Can your success in life be affected by the company of people you associate with? Yes it does. Therefore if you want to be successful you must associate or surround yourself with successful people. The following are some of the tips of how you can surround yourself with successful people;

Mobile phone

Keep only the number of people who add value to you and everybody you come across. If you are faced with a challenge the fast reference point is with people you can share the challenge with. Surely your farm workers, taxi drivers, housemaid, nursery teacher etc may not help you when you want to solve a medical or finance challenge.

Worship places

Yes we know God is everywhere. But why should you then attend prayers in the suburb of the city or town with people you do not know when there is a   prayer place for people of your class in another location., You may have sound reasons to attend prayers in a place where no one knows you but it may not be beneficial to you in the long run for success in life.

Schools and Colleges

There are schools which are known to produce leaders and why not work hard to attend those colleges and schools.

Restaurants and hotels

Have your lunch or snack in places where you are likely to meet people who will add value to you.

Salons

There are salons which are frequented by who and who! Why not venture into those salons to get a chance to talk to who and who. I have met many members of parliament, ministers, and prominent lawyers in a salon I frequent for my hair cut. I sometime amuse myself of whether these prominent people are coming to the salon because of me! But I keep going to the same salon.

Shopping

You have a right to shop from cheapest shopping malls located in downtown or crowded suburbs in the city. But you remember these shopping malls are intended to attract a certain class of people not necessarily the successful class of people. It is true you can make some savings but do not make it a habit as you need to associate with successful people normally found in posh places.

Friends

Associate with people who have a positive attitude towards life. They should not be people who are always complaining or competing with others or comparing themselves with others for the sake of it. Your friends will make you or break you!

Place of residence

You have a right to fix neighbours especially if you are buying or building a house in a new place. Otherwise you will find yourself in the community which you do not belong to.

Conclusion

In order to be successful in life you have to take deliberate action to associate with people who are positive and successful in life. This is how Mandy Hale summarizes the discussion” “Look around you at the people you spend the most time with and realize that your life can’t rise any higher than your friendships.” Or “Sometimes you have to move on without certain people. If they’re meant to be in your life, they’ll catch up.”
